What happened yesterday. I've watched a lot of UAB football, I came to UAB in the "glory" days of Darrell Hackney; so I've seen what we can do. After Hackney left and we saw how well Watson Brown coached we decided we needed a new coach. So after many an interview we got a man who was let go from Georgia. He was to bring UAB into a new chapter. In his first year he was 2-10, we played it off as "Well he's a first year coach and he's teaching a new system to the athletes." This year we are 2-7 with a lot of close calls, now C-USA is a getting better, Tulsa, and ECU were ranked this year. But it doesn't change the fact, that we've lost so many games again. With poor time management and gaping holes in the defensive line, we deserved to lose every game we've played in. This is not where UAB should be at in terms of being a team. We have good players. We have athletes who under the right coach could definitely be a 5/6 win team.
So where does UAB go from here. We can't get a new coach this year. I wish we could, but unfortunately we can't change horses midstream. Maybe after next year we should look and find a new coach if we have another losing season. I would really like to blame the UA board of Trustees for our coach, as we had Jimbo Fisher in our grasp and the trustees decided that UAB can't be as good as Alabama. So we have who we have, we need to get an offensive or defensive coordinator who wasn't fired from their previous job.
On to basketball...
We have a great season upon us, with Preseason NIT and having one of the most veteran teams of C-USA, we have a chance to not only make the dance, but to be first in the conference. With the return of Paul Delaney, Robert Vaden, and Lawrence Kinnard, UAB will be a dominating force. UAB only has three players this year who are not juniors or seniors. ESPN has UAB as a 7 seed and I agree and say we have a possiblity to be a 6 seed. We changed our offense style to move away from the "Street" game to more Guard and Forward heavy, fitting since we don't have a point guard or true center.
This is all for the first offical sports post. See you all tomorrow and GO BLAZERS!
