Sleep = Good, Football = Better

So  I fell asleep yesterday afternoon and awoke to the third quarter of the TCU/Utah game. But it was a good game with a great ending.  I did want TCU to win, but I don't have a problem seeing Utah still be in the BCS polls.  More posting tonight. I promise, need to get foods.

The Mid Major Gauntlet Rundown

I'm kinda excited about writing about the MMC because there isn't enough news out there and i figure it will let me type something about a winning team.    Ball State is playing Northern Illinois tonight on ESPN and of course I believe that the undefeated Ball State will win. NIU is a decent team 5-3 record with a 4-1 conference record.  Other MMC news, BOISE STATE IS THE GREATEST MMC TEAM EVER!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?OMG WTF STFU BYOB!!!!???!?!?!?!?!?

Seriously great team, I truly believe that they will win out, Utah State wussy aggies, Idaho uniform malfunctioning vandals, and Nevada puppy pack, before facing a struggling Fresno State to close out the season.  It's predicted that Boise will be playing in the Fiesta Bowl again and I would agree with that.

Wyoming got busted for comments made after a hard hit resulted in a serious concussion on saturday vs. TCU.

I'm finishing this up now so I can focus on the game but it was good to see Dante Love walking out on the field, if you didn't know about Dante Love, he had a spinal fracture on Sept. 20th (my birthday) and it ended his football career, he isn't in a wheelchair and he walked out to the coin toss.  He was a Wide Reciever and has been a great motivational teammate for the team.

The UAB Front

They practiced in full pads, today which is what they needed to do.  Players made the comment that they were embarrassed by their 70-14 loss.  the team has one more full pads practice then a couple of days rest.  Most teams play better after a bye week, but we can hope and pray for Tulane to have a craptastic day on game day.

Elections

Not going to do a real update today since it's been nothing but election news.  I am also thinking about talking about mid major conferences conferences in order to have more to talk about during the week, maybe while basketball season is going on it will go back to focusing on just UAB.  Thanks and make sure and vote.

News and such

No real news, Coach Davis and assistants said the team is looking great during preseason practices.  I'm hoping to go to one or two this week to see what exactly we are doing so I can give my thoughts.  I said yesterday that we have a shot of getting a good seed, I truly believe that. I'm not going to say how far in the dance I think we will go, it's way too early to decide.  I'll be going to the Troy game on the 15th so I'll be sure to highlight the team after I get home.  Go Blazers!

If there is no real football/basketball news, I might talk about some mid-major football just to give me something to do.

Go Blazers! (again, Hey we need all the help we can get on the grid iron.)

Football, basketball, and general nonesense

Alrighty sorry for the late post, I had to work in a film for class.  We finished the whole project today so I'm done with that.  Now on to sports.

What happened yesterday.  I've watched a lot of UAB football, I came to UAB in the "glory" days of Darrell Hackney; so I've seen what we can do.  After Hackney left and we saw how well Watson Brown coached we decided we needed a new coach.  So after many an interview we got a man who was let go from Georgia.  He was to bring UAB into a new chapter.  In his first year he was 2-10, we played it off as "Well he's a first year coach and he's teaching a new system to the athletes."  This year we are 2-7 with a lot of close calls, now C-USA is a getting better, Tulsa, and ECU were ranked this year.  But it doesn't change the fact, that we've lost so many games again.  With poor time management and gaping holes in the defensive line, we deserved to lose every game we've played in.  This is not where UAB should be at in terms of being a team.  We have good players.  We have athletes who under the right coach could definitely be a 5/6 win team.

So where does UAB go from here.  We can't get a new coach this year.  I wish we could, but unfortunately we can't change horses midstream.  Maybe after next year we should look and find a new coach if we have another losing season.  I would really like to blame the UA board of Trustees for our coach, as we had Jimbo Fisher in our grasp and the trustees decided that UAB can't be as good as Alabama. So we have who we have, we need to get an offensive or defensive coordinator who wasn't fired from their previous job.

On to basketball...

We have a great season upon us, with Preseason NIT and having one of the most veteran teams of C-USA, we have a chance to not only make the dance, but to be first in the conference.  With the return of  Paul Delaney, Robert Vaden, and Lawrence Kinnard, UAB will be a dominating force.  UAB only has three players this year who are not juniors or seniors.  ESPN has UAB as a 7 seed and I agree and say we have a possiblity to be a 6 seed.  We changed our offense style to move away from the "Street" game to more Guard and Forward heavy, fitting since we don't have a point guard or true center.

This is all for the first offical sports post.  See you all tomorrow and GO BLAZERS!

Introductions and such

Hey Blazer fans--

I'm starting this blog as somewhat of a protest and/or a way to bring more news to UAB sports fans.  Right now I'll only cover Mens' Basketball and Football.  If enough people insist, I'll start covering other sports too.  I'm not an expert in either sport but as a fan of both sports I will give fan opinion as well as getting information from "sports experts".  I might even be able to get some players from the different teams to say a few words for the blog but right now it will be just me.

One big thing I shall do is give score updates so in case espn doesn't want to show the score or whatever reason you won't have to go without a score.

So as I write this the score is 35-7 USM in the 2nd quarter.
